Included in this section is the Dayton Wright Model SG-Mk 2
Note: SPA's built by the Dayton Wright Associates Ltd., Division of Leigh Industries Ltd., have a serious problem caused by Leigh's choice of the the flat black latex paint that was used. In time, it may 'revert' and become sticky. This 'reversion' process may be accelerated by the use of common cleaners! When The Dayton Wright Group Ltd., purchased the stock from Leigh, we had all the preamplifiers and their power supplies, sandblasted to remove any paint. Then they were sprayed with a dull bronze baking-type enamel. When we serviced any Leigh built SPA, we offered to replace the Leigh case for cost - the cost of the new case (including the epoxy paint silk screening), as well as the labor involved in re-installing the PC boards. We also offered to correct Leigh's error in
leaving out several resistors and capacitors which were designed to correct
the RIAA equalization. Leigh's SPA's in Phono Mode, can cause the power
amplifier to clip on loud signals! The previous preamp (before Leigh) was
designed to us some feed-forward to reduce phaseshift and Transient Intermodulation
Distortion. Obviously, there was a price for this modification.
